Oil Cleansing: An Ancient Method

Oil Cleansing: An Ancient Method

The oil cleansing method has been around for centuries but has only recently gained popularity in natural skin care. In ancient times using oils to cleanse and nourish the skin was actually the norm. Ancient Romans rubbed olive oil onto their skin, removing it with a "strigil" in hot plunge baths and ancient Egyptians used castor, fenugreek, moringa, olive and sesame oils; the latter two being favorites of Cleopatra. Australian Aboriginal tribes used emu and macadamia oils in addition to other indigenous plant oils for cleansing the skin.

Oil cleansing is a wonderful way to thoroughly remove dirt, makeup and impure skin oils while balancing sebum production. This method does not strip off your skin’s natural moisture like soap can. Healthy skin oils are our skins natural defense and moisturizer and stripping them away puts our skin into overdrive, creating an over-production of sebum, and thus making us move to stronger face washes to remove the excess oil. The oil cleansing method works because oil dissolves oil; it gently, naturally, and effectively dissolves the built up environmental impurities that get on our skin during the day and moisturizes the skin, promoting optimal sebum production so your skin can look, feel, and be healthy.

You may be hesitant about applying oil to already oily skin. Certain types of oils can actually help balance your skin’s pH level to prevent oil glands underneath your skin from overproducing oil. This is why we love using our base oil of macadamia as it contains a perfect ratio of essential fatty acids, the closest match to naturally occurring sebum of the skin. Macadamia oil contains squalene and oleic acid that assists with cell regeneration, omega 7 or palmitoleic acid which is beneficial for wound healing, scratches and burns, phytosterols that assist with itchiness and redness, and is highly emollient yet light penetrating. Blended with other deep cleansing and anti-inflammatory indigenous tree extracts, and Kakadu Plum, the world's highest natural source of Vitamin C, our 95% organic Aboriginal Clarifying Cleansing Oil will help normalize oily skin, clear acne and refine the skins texture while delivering nourishment for a healthy complexion.

Ritual

Apply a few pumps to the face and neck, massaging in upward, circular motions. Dampen a clean washcloth in warm water and press it against your face for one minute to steam and activate the oils, then wipe away to cleanse the face.
